馬士基表示，這一決定的目的是減少進度差距和下滑，提高每周覆蓋率，并允許更強大的供應鏈規劃。
此外，2m聯盟的目標之一是減少燃料消耗。隨著變更形式的開始，2m聯盟將調整船舶航速以減少排放，以實現到2040年實現溫室氣體凈零排放的目標。
